Namecheap figures as of 2026-10-26, US data center, from namecheap.com/hosting/shared and namecheap.com’s .com page. Some domains also carry a $0.20 ICANN fee at checkout. Prices are in USD and change often; check their site before you decide. Serverlys rates are the ones on our pricing page and our domain extensions list.
What the lower price does and does not include
Namecheap is cheaper. Stellar at $5.88/mo billed monthly costs less than our Starter at $7.95/mo, and its yearly and bi-yearly prices are lower still. Its page says the advertised discount does not apply to renewals, without printing the renewal rate.
The difference is in what sits around the hosting. Stellar is backed up twice a week; every Serverlys plan is backed up daily, and restores are free and run by us. Migration, patching and monitoring are done for you, and our renewal rate of $7.95/mo is printed before checkout.
Domains split the other way by year. Namecheap’s .com is $11.28 in year one and $18.48 at renewal. Ours is $14.95 in year one and $14.95 in every year after.

When Namecheap is the better choice
A comparison that never loses is advertising. These are the cases where we would point you to them.
The lowest hosting bill is what matters
On 26 October 2026 Namecheap's Stellar plan was $2.28/mo billed yearly and $5.88/mo billed monthly. Both are below our Starter at $7.95/mo, and we will not pretend otherwise.
You want to try before you pay
Every Stellar plan offers 30 days free. We do not offer a free trial; we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee instead, which means paying first.
You want mailboxes inside the hosting
Stellar includes 30 mailboxes and the two plans above it unlimited mailboxes. Our business email is its own plan, so if bundled mail matters most, theirs is the simpler bill.
You are registering or transferring a .com
Namecheap's first-year .com is $11.28, or $6.48 for a new customer with a promo code, and a transfer in is $11.48. Ours is $14.95 for either. Check the renewal before you decide: theirs is $18.48, ours $14.95.
You want privacy guaranteed for life
Namecheap gives free lifetime domain privacy on every eligible domain. Ours is free too, where the registry allows it; theirs is written as a lifetime promise.

Where Serverlys is different
Hosting is half of it. The other half is the work around the site that we will do for you.
- Daily backups, free restores
Every plan is backed up daily, and we run the restore for you at no charge.
What managed covers - One .com price
A .com is $14.95 to register and $14.95 to renew, with WHOIS privacy free where the registry allows.
The .com page - Renewal printed
The advertised price is a monthly rate with the renewal rate beside it, before checkout.

How to move from Namecheap
You choose a plan, send the details and approve the switch. We do the moving.
- 1
Pick a plan by monthly rate and renewal rate
Compare the plans and renewal rates and choose the tier that fits your traffic. Most single sites start on cloud hosting or WordPress hosting.
- 2
Request the free migration
Send us your site address and access details through the migration request. You do not need to export anything from your Namecheap account first.
- 3
Check the staged copy, then approve the DNS switch
We copy your files and database to a staging address. When you are happy, we point the domain at Serverlys. Your Namecheap site keeps serving until the change has spread, so there is no gap.
- 4
Keep the domain at Namecheap, or move it
Hosting and domain can move separately, and with Namecheap’s .com transfer price lower than ours, leaving the domain there is a reasonable choice. To bring it anyway, unlock it, get its authorisation code and start a domain transfer. A .com transfer costs $14.95 and adds a year; ICANN rules block transfers within 60 days of a registration or a previous transfer.
- 5
Move email, then cancel Namecheap last
If your mailboxes live on Namecheap hosting, set up business email first. Once the site, email and SSL are confirmed on Serverlys, cancel the old plan.
Before you buy
The things people actually ask us, answered plainly.
What is the best Namecheap alternative?
It depends on what you are buying. For the cheapest hosting bill, a free trial and a cheap first-year domain, Namecheap is hard to beat. If you want daily backups on every plan, a .com that renews at $14.95, and the migration and upkeep done for you, Serverlys starts at $5.01 first month (Black Friday, until Dec 7) and renews at $7.95/mo.
Is Namecheap hosting cheaper than Serverlys?
Yes. On 26 October 2026 Namecheap's Stellar plan was $2.28/mo billed yearly and $5.88/mo billed monthly; our Starter is $5.01 first month (Black Friday, until Dec 7) and renews at $7.95/mo. Namecheap's page says its advertised discount does not apply to renewals, and printed no renewal figure, so we do not state one.
How does a Namecheap .com compare with a Serverlys .com?
Namecheap is cheaper to register and transfer: $11.28 for the first year ($6.48 for a new customer with a promo code) and $11.48 to transfer. It renews at $18.48 a year. A Serverlys .com is $14.95 to register, transfer or renew, every year.
How often does Namecheap back up a site?
Its shared hosting comparison table lists backups twice a week on Stellar, and twice a week plus AutoBackup on Stellar Plus and Stellar Business. Every Serverlys plan is backed up daily, and we run restores for you at no charge.
Does Serverlys require a prepaid term?
No. The advertised price is a plain monthly rate. Starter is $5.01 first month (Black Friday, until Dec 7), then $7.95/mo with a one-off $1.86 setup fee, so the first invoice is $6.87, and the renewal rate is shown beside it on every plan.
Is Namecheap a bad host?
No. Namecheap is an ICANN-accredited registrar with low prices, a free hosting trial, free lifetime domain privacy, free migration and 24/7 support. We differ on backups, on how much we do for you and on what a .com costs after year one, not on whether they are legitimate. Choose on the terms that suit you.
A plan that still makes sense in year two
Free migration, free SSL and daily backups on every plan, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
